General information about the Metro Manila region
The wider region is very diverse and highly urbanized. It is internationally known for its regular traffic congestions and effects on regional traffic coming with that especially during rush hours.

Manila is the national capital and has therefore a lot of important institutions, but also a lot of historic monuments to offer. China town has its own ethnic cuisine and shopping experience. Makati is known as the international and banking district with a posh cuisine and famous brands available for shopping. (Dont miss out on visiting Brotzeit restaurant, that famous Asian chain offering genuine German cuisine abroad! :) )

Malls are the pride of Philippine shopping culture and the Metro Manila region can offer some of the largest of Asia. World War history as well as early Spanish colonial history are close by.

For visitors that prefer acclimatization in a slightly cooler climate Baguio, the former summer residence of colonial rulers, is the prefered tourist attraction to the northeast of the Metro region. To the southwest the volcanic edge near Tagaytay offers also cooler temperatures with the similarly higher elevation and lots of nature surrounding it.

Baguio is known for its strawberries and many tourist attractions and fun parks and activities. South of Manila is the Laguna lake region and also a volcanic region to its south again located with a traditional SPA related local industry.

For beach vacations it is recommended to leave the center of inner city Manila and neighboring conglomerates for nearby provinces like for example west of Cavite and starting in Cavite province or to the other side of Manila bay.

Palawan and other world class tourist destinations are not far away. The Mindoro strait sports the highest global genetic diversity of underwater life and snorkeling will leave you stunned probably in general everywhere in a Philippine beach destination of certain rank. The colorful experience of fish, crab, slugs, corals, ... is simply unbelievable and unseen of.
